Miss Universe 2025: Controversies, Contestants Walking Out, and Judges Resigning—A Contest Full of Drama

Miss Universe 2025: Fatima Bosh of Mexico has been crowned the 74th Miss Universe. She was chosen Miss Universe 2025 during the ceremony held in Thailand on November 21, 2025. This year’s contest did not bring good news for India. India’s hope, Manika Vishwakarma from Rajasthan, failed to secure a place in the top 12. The next Miss Universe contest will take place in the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico. This year’s Miss Universe competition was not just glamorous but also filled with controversies. The contest made headlines due to debates, apologies, and judges resigning.

Pre-Pageant Incident: Before the Miss Universe finals, during a pre-pageant event, a heated argument broke out between Miss Universe Mexico, Fatima Bosh, and the Miss Universe Thailand Director, Nawat Itsaragrisil. The conflict stemmed from Bosh’s refusal to post promotional content for the host country, Thailand. Initially, Bosh tried to explain her stance, but when the situation escalated, she walked out of the venue.

Other contestants, including Victoria Theilvig from Denmark, followed her and walked out as well. Witnessing this, Itsaragrisil threatened to disqualify anyone supporting Bosh. The incident was globally criticized, and Itsaragrisil faced harsh criticism, while Bosh became a fan favorite after the argument.

Itsaragrisil Apologizes: Following the controversy, the President of the Miss Universe Organization, Raul Rocha, posted a video message on Instagram criticizing Itsaragrisil’s behavior. Rocha announced that the CEO, Mario Bucaro, along with other executives, would be traveling to Thailand to manage the situation. The organization also limited Itsaragrisil’s role in the pageant. After this, Itsaragrisil tearfully apologized during a press conference for her actions.

Judges Resign Before the Ceremony: A few days before the announcement of the Miss Universe 2025 winner, two judges suddenly withdrew from the competition. One of them accused the pageant of rigging. Composer Omar Harfouch posted on Instagram, stating that he resigned from the 8-member judging panel. He claimed that there was a secret “impromptu” panel that had already selected the top 30 contestants before the final. Harfouch said, “I could not stand in front of the public and TV cameras to justify a vote I never participated in.”

In response to this statement, the Miss Universe Organization issued a statement clarifying, “The Miss Universe Organization clearly states that no impromptu jury was formed, and no external group was authorized to evaluate delegates or select finalists. All competition evaluations will continue to follow transparent and supervised MUO protocols.” The other judge, former French soccer star Claude Makélélé, also resigned on the same day, citing personal reasons.
