Google has introduced powerful new AI safety features for Indians. The company has announced the launch of its real-time scam detection feature for Pixel smartphones, powered by Gemini Nano. The goal of this feature is to protect users from the rising threat of scam calls in the country and help them detect suspicious conversations before they fall victim. Google announced this new feature today at its “Safe and Trusted AI” event, addressing growing concerns about fraud phone activities targeting people across India. Here’s how this new feature works…
Google launched this real-time scam detection feature at a time when online and phone fraud has become one of the biggest consumer threats in the country—especially for children, teenagers, and senior citizens, who are regularly targeted by scammers. In the past few years, digital arrest fraud, phishing, impersonation scams, and many others have seen a rapid rise.

If the AI Detects Fraud Cues During a Call, You’ll Get an Alert
Google’s new real-time scam detection feature for Pixel phones uses the power of Gemini Nano AI to analyze calls directly on the device. The AI tool will examine calls coming from unknown numbers, and if it detects signs of fraud during the conversation, it will alert the user. Google mentioned that the feature will remain off by default, giving users full control over when they want to enable it. If the feature is activated, a light beep during the call will inform both parties, and users can turn it off anytime.
The company also confirmed that the real-time call detection feature will not record audio or send any transcripts to Google, ensuring user privacy. Google says the feature is especially designed to protect vulnerable groups like children, teenagers, and seniors, who are most often targeted by scammers.
Opening a Payment App During a Call Will Trigger an Alert
Along with scam call detection, Google has introduced another safety feature to prevent financial fraud during live conversations. If a user is sharing their screen and opens an online payment app—such as Google Pay, Navi, or Paytm—while talking to an unknown caller, Pixel phones will now display a warning. With UPI and banking-related scams rising rapidly, Google says this alert will allow users to end the call or stop screen sharing with a single tap, helping prevent real-time social engineering attempts.
