Cloudflare Down: Major Websites Go Offline for Second Time in Three Weeks

Several websites hosted on Cloudflare servers went down again on Friday, marking the second such outage in three weeks. Social media was flooded with complaints from users unable to access platforms including Canva, BookMyShow, Grow, Coinbase, and LinkedIn.

The previous outage on 18 November had also disrupted services in India, affecting multiple AI platforms. However, OpenAI and ChatGPT continued to operate in the country.

Trading platforms affected

According to reports, trading platforms such as Grow and Zerodha were also impacted due to their reliance on Cloudflare servers. Zerodha confirmed that its Kite service has since been fully restored. At the time of reporting, Cloudflare’s global outage appeared to have been resolved.

Cloudflare response

Cloudflare stated that the outage was caused by an issue with its dashboard-linked Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and that a fix had been implemented. Friday’s outage affected trading platforms and marked the second disruption of Cloudflare services within three weeks. The previous incident had been more severe, impacting services from ChatGPT to former US President Donald Trump’s Truth Social platform.

What is Cloudflare?

Cloudflare is a key part of today’s internet infrastructure. It helps websites deliver content, provides security, and ensures sites remain online during traffic spikes or cyberattacks. Any issue with Cloudflare can affect all websites directly connected to its servers. While such problems are rare, this month has seen two outages within three weeks.
