Adani Family Tops Again: First-Generation Most Valuable Indian Family Business Group for the Second Consecutive Year

The Adani family has once again topped the list. In the 2025 Barclays Private Clients Hurun India Most Valuable Family Business ranking, the first-generation entrepreneurs who have established business empires have been recognized.

For the second consecutive year, the Adani family leads the list of the 20 most valuable first-generation Indian family businesses with a business valuation of ₹14 lakh crore.

Adani Family’s Leadership and Business Empire

Led by Gautam Adani, this ₹14 lakh crore valuation comes from the combined worth of Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports, and other group companies. This makes their business the most valuable first-generation business in India.

Other Top Family Businesses

In second place is the Poonawala family, led by Cyrus Poonawala, who runs Serum Institute of India. The business is valued at ₹2.3 lakh crore. In third place is the Divi family, with Murali K. Divi, whose pharmaceutical company Divi’s Laboratories is valued at ₹1.8 lakh crore.

Combined Wealth of the Top Three Families

The combined valuation of these top three families’ businesses is $471 billion or ₹40.4 lakh crore. This valuation has increased by ₹4.6 lakh crore this year. Interestingly, the wealth of these three families is now equivalent to the GDP of the Philippines.

New Entries in the Business Family List

This year, new family businesses have entered the list, including the Nuwal family, whose business Solar Industries is now valued at ₹1.6 lakh crore. The Reddy family has also made its debut with their Apollo Hospitals business, valued at ₹1 lakh crore. The Grandi family has entered with GMR group, which has grown its business to ₹98,300 crore.

A New Generation of Indian Entrepreneurs

These families represent the new generation of Indian entrepreneurship. They are ready to pass on their legacy to the next generation. Most of the heirs of these large business groups are already contributing to the development and management of their family businesses.
