2025 Tesla Model Y Achieves 5-Star Safety Rating in Euro NCAP, Becomes the Safest SUV

Tesla Model Y: The 2025 Tesla Model Y has earned a 5-star safety rating in the Euro NCAP test. It scored 91% for adult passenger safety, 93% for child safety, 86% for safety of vulnerable road users, and 92% for safety assist systems. This demonstrates Tesla’s strong commitment to passenger safety, advanced technology, and road safety standards.

Tesla Model Y Euro NCAP: Adult Passenger Safety

Euro NCAP evaluated the left-hand drive dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant of the Tesla Model Y, which is not available in India. However, the 5-star rating also includes the right-hand drive Model Y Long Range RWD, which is the top-spec variant available in India. The Performance AWD model is also included in the same 5-star safety category. Euro NCAP gave the Tesla Model Y a strong 91% score for adult passenger safety. The test showed that the body shell remained stable during a frontal offset collision, and the safety for adult occupants was rated as good to adequate in both frontal offset and full-width impacts. In the side impact test, the SUV performed well in the barrier test, though chest protection was rated as marginal in the side pole test due to compression readings.

Tesla Model Y Euro NCAP: Child Safety

In Euro NCAP’s crash test, the Tesla Model Y provided excellent protection for the vital body parts of 6-year-old and 10-year-old child dummies in both frontal offset and side impact tests, earning a perfect score of 24/24. To enhance safety, the front passenger airbag can be disabled for rearward-facing child seats, with a clear alert to the driver. Additionally, the Model Y features a child presence detection system, designed to alert the driver if a child or infant is detected inside the cabin.

Tesla Model Y Euro NCAP: Safety for Vulnerable Road Users

The 2025 Tesla Model Y scored 86% for the safety of vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists, under Euro NCAP’s assessment. The protection of the head of pedestrians and cyclists was generally good, although weak points were identified around the windscreen pillars and base. Additionally, the autonomous emergency braking system received good scores for detecting pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.

Tesla Model Y Euro NCAP: Safety Assist

In the safety assist tests, the Model Y scored 92%. Its autonomous emergency braking system performed well compared to other vehicles, helping to prevent collisions. Standard features include seatbelt reminders for both front and rear passengers, as well as a driver monitoring system to detect inattentiveness. These technologies emphasize Tesla’s focus on active safety and driver assistance.
